The immune reactions involved in allergies are quite complex. Most reactions involve allergen protein molecules combining with antibodies in the blood, then attaching to a type of cell called a mast cell. Mast cells are found in many tissues throughout the body. When the antigen and antibody react with mast cells, the mast cells release potent chemicals, such as histamines, that cause local inflammation such as redness, swelling, and itching. This inflammation causes various signs associated with an allergic reaction.

There’s a variety of environmental allergens that your dog may be sensitive to, such as dust mites, fleas, mold, pollen from grass and plants.

Dogs can also be allergic to a certain ingredient in their food, these can include: beef, chicken, fish, pork, rabbit, lamb, soy, wheat, dairy, egg and more. There is a variety of hypoallergenic and free from dog food available to choose from.
